Got My GPS
I knew I was going to need a GPS for this cross country trip and finally broke down and got a great little Garmin Zuni 396 for my bike. After watching several YouTube installation videos online, today was the day to install the unit. The instructions that came with the unit were vague, with no mention of how to attach the wiring to the motorcycle’s battery, hence the YouTube videos.
I am not a fan of electrical stuff, so that’s where Charlie comes into play. I should also add that common sense is not my strong point either. I got the mount on the bike and attached the unit and was all kinds of proud of my progress and had Charlie take a look. He announced to me that it was clearly in the way of filling my gas tank, something I will be doing twice a day. UGH, unscrew the mount and move it to the other side of the handlebars. Perfect! Now to get the wiring to the battery in place. After several tries, and many zip ties, and more advice from Charlie, I got it where it needed to go.
Charlie took over from here connecting the wires to the battery posts. As soon as he screwed down the neutral, or ground wire, the black one, the unit fired up. YAY, success! So much for the part of the installation guide that said have a professional do the install!
